The Durfee 360 exploring contemporary religious and cultural issues
Kent A. Durfee was a native Wichitan who loved his family and lived life to its fullest. As a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, he was grateful for his wonderful friends in faith and cherished each day as a gift from God. In the summer of 1998, Kent died at the age of 52, leaving a leagacy to First Presbyterian Church to establish a lecture series. This is truly a gift that will continue to nurture the members of First Presbyterian Church and the Wichita community for years to come.
The purpose of the Durfee Lecture Series is to identify and provide opportunities for the congregation of First Presbyterian Church and the community, to explore the broad spectrum of religous and culture issues facing contemporary Christians.

Distinguished American baritone Anthony Brown is a classically trained singer,
international promoter of peace, and citizen of the world. Brown is founder of the
Peacing It Together Foundation, an organization that serves the global community
as a resource for peace and social justice. He uses music and the spoken word to
bring people together across the divides of race, culture and religion. Brown’s
travels have taken him to countries experiencing unrest, where he has seen music
transform and heal. With an interest in the stories of suffering and hope of people
across the world, Brown’s repertoire is rich in African-American spirituals and
hymns across the decades of history. He is also co-creator of I Go On Singing: Paul
Robeson’s Life in Word and Song, an original tribute to the popular African-
American performer and civil rights activist.
Hesston College Bel Canto Singers
Mr. Brown will be performing with the Hesston College premier vocal ensemble, the
Bel Canto Singers, a 27-voice mixed chamber choir under the direction of Dr. Russell
Adrian. The 2018-19 year marks the 35th season for the Bel Canto Singers. The
group carries out ambitious concert and touring schedules annually. Bel Canto
performs sacred and secular music in the community, at campus events, and on
tours throughout the U.S.
