Volunteering at the Nursery allows churchgoers to focus on worship, rather than worrying about or being distracted by their children. When you volunteer at the Nursery, you are responsible for taking care of the youngest members of the church family and for helping the pastor fulfill his ministry.
Please be in the nursery by 9:15 a.m. (when there are two services) or 15 minutes before the service when there is no Sunday School and/or only one service. All volunteers must submit to a background check. Please contact Liz Norris if you are interested in helping with this important ministry through the church website or at 214-4318.
It is your responsibility to find a replacement if you cannot work on your assigned day. Please call a sub if you need a replacement.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. (approximately)
Essentials: Must have a valid drivers license, be between the ages of 24 and 80, and have an interest in people.
Interested in volunteer driving? Please call 316-267-1675
The first Saturday of every month, it takes 24 church members to prepare and serve a hot, healthy breakfast for people in the neighborhood– some who are homeless and some who are working but having a hard time making ends meet.
The first shift of volunteers arrives at 6:30 a.m. to begin cooking, the second shift arrives at 7:30 a.m. for final set-up and to serve the food from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (a food handler’s license is not required). The third wave of volunteers arrive at 8:30 a.m. to start washing pots and pans and to help with clean-up in the dining room.
The cost to feed the 150-200 neighbors is about $300 per Saturday. Financial gifts can be left at the church office and new volunteers are always welcome. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the East Dining Room. Right now, we are particularly looking for three people who can be "team leaders" for the clean-up process (with five people on each cleaning crew). They would rotate months. Email Stephanie Bird-Hutchison if you would like to help with this rewarding, hands-on project.
We are always looking for volunteers to help in the church office with numerous projects, including folding, stuffing envelopes, helping at the front desk as a receptionist, computer assistance and more. If you have extra time on your hands and would like to help, please call Nancy Bishop at 316-263-0248 and we will add your name to the list.
A new team of two volunteers is needed to assist the existing two teams in rotating communion preparation duties. This allows for each team to serve only once a quarter. The term of service is three years. Little training is required and will be provided. Please call Dennis Black, Cheryl Runyan, Kathy McVey, or Beth Devins to learn more about participating.
